Capitals vs Bruins Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight - NHL
After an impressive win in a matchup of the two best teams in hockey, is a letdown in store for the Boston Bruins Saturday afternoon when the struggling Washington Capitals visit TD Garden?
Boston is coming off an impressive 4-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks last game, leaving both teams with 73 points on the year — currently the only two teams to touch that 70-point plateau.
Now, they turn their attention to a Capitals side that has regulation losses in five of six with just a single point to show for their efforts. They’re +220 road dogs in the NHL odds.

Capitals vs Bruins predictions
Whenever you can hold the second-highest scoring team in hockey off the scoresheet, you know you’ve done something good.
That had to be the feeling for the Bruins after blanking the Vancouver Canucks last Game, the first shutout of the year for Linus Ullmark.
A team that usually gets their goalies peppered at 31.2 shots per Game — a Top-10 mark in the NHL — the Bruins limited Vancouver to 17 shots, the fewest against them this season.
Offensively, first-period short-handed goals by Brad Marchand and Danton Heinen got things going and the B’s never looked back. They’re sixth in the NHL, scoring 3.45 goals per Game.
This will be their first look at Washington, with all three matchups coming after the All-Star break.
The Capitals have been reeling, most recently dropping a 4-2 decision in Florida against the Panthers. That result had just a little more sting, considering Washington jumped out to 1-0 and 2-1 leads, but couldn’t sustain it.
Getting outscored is nothing new for the Caps, who enter Saturday as hockey’s third-lowest scoring team, putting up a paltry 2.37 goals per Game. During this recent skid, they’re averaging two goals a Game.
A team that ranks middle of the pack in goals against, the Caps have seen a spike in that too, with opponents scoring four or more goals in five of the last six Games.
While Boston has dominated this head-to-head of late, winning eight of the last 10, Washington’s two wins have come in the last four Games, including a 2-1 win at TD last February.
Prior to their win over Vancouver, Boston had covered just one of the previous four Games as 1.5-goal favorites, the line set for this one.
I’m confident the Bruins win, but Washington is in a good spot here to catch them and play them close.
My best bet: Washington +1.5 (-115 at SIA)
Capitals vs Bruins same-game parlay
Washington +1.5
Boston moneyline
Alex Ovechkin anytime goal
Taking that “Caps keep it close, but Boston wins” energy into my three-legged same-game parlay for this one.
Coming out of the All-Star break with a 4-1 dud against Calgary was an outlier, as that gave the Bruins just two losses across their last 10 games.
Let’s finish this one off with an old reliable, Mr. Alexander Ovechkin. Despite Washington’s struggles, Ovie has been lighting the lamp of late.
After tallying last game in the loss to Florida, he now has goals in three straight games, the longest goal streak he’s had this season.
While he only has two goals in the last 12 regular-season games against Boston over the previous three years, I think the 38-year-old vet can light the lamp Saturday.
Ovechkin’s goal-scoring isn’t as potent this season, but he’s definitely capable of scoring in bunches. In the previous two years, he’s had five instances where he has scored at least a goal in four straight games.

Capitals vs Bruins moneyline and Over/Under analysis
Boston as a moneyline favorite has gone as long as -300 in the odds, but nothing shorter than -263 odds. The longest odds Washington has been pegged at is +234.
The last time these teams played, Boston beat the Caps 5-2 as -328 favorites. Prior to that, each of the previous games — two Washington wins and one Boston W — the winning team had plus odds.
Not much fluctuation for the total, which started at 5.5 goals but has only moved by a half-goal since.
Both teams have below .500 Over records on the season. Washington has seen the Over go just 20-27-2 in their games, while the Bruins are nearly break-even at 25-26-0.
